Have you ever considered adding some flair to your kitchen cabinets? Under cabinet lighting may be the go-to option, but have you heard of glass cabinet lighting? It’s a fantastic way to accentuate your cabinets and make your glassware shine. Our expert Lighting Designers have discovered the easiest method to install glass cabinet lighting. With an upside-down “U” position along the front of your cabinets, you can achieve evenly distributed light throughout your cabinet while keeping the LED light strips hidden when the doors are closed.
What You’ll Need
To complete this project, gather the following items:
- Drill and drill bit
- Screwdriver
- Normal Bright Flexible Strip
- Cable or power supply (depending on system set up)
Step 1: Prepare the Cabinet
Remove the shelving and cabinet door(s). Ensure that the inside of the cabinet is clean and free from any debris, as the adhesive needs a smooth surface to stick to.

Step 2: Drill a Hole
To allow the cable (and power) to pass through to your LEDs, you’ll need to drill a small entry hole in your cabinet. The ideal location for this hole will depend on your setup. If connecting to an under-cabinet lighting system, drill through the front left or front right bottom corner. For lights above your cabinets, drill a hole near the top center to connect to a mid-connector, allowing you to power down each side of the LED strip.
Step 3: Install the Flexible LED Strip
Start by applying the flexible LED strip in an upside-down “U” shape, following the perimeter of the cabinet’s front as closely as possible. Use a guiding line along the inside of the cabinet to help you. Peel off the adhesive as you progress around the cabinet, being careful when bending the strip near corners to avoid damaging the fragile resistors and solder joints.
Step 4: Finishing Touches
Double-check that everything is in place before plugging in the lights to ensure they are working properly. Finally, reattach the doors to the cabinet.
By using a single flexible strip, the light will be evenly distributed across the entire cabinet, unlike puck lights that create a spotlight effect and only illuminate the upper shelf. This installation method works well for cabinets with wood or glass shelves.
